The first sunday of August is the next popular day among youngsters after the 14th of feb or perhaps i guess it's the other way around.And it's not just the friendship between friends alone that matters now.Couples give friendship cards to reaffirm the bond between them , students wish teachers & siblings and cousins acknowledge their friendship.Frienship is surely one bond that surprasses every other relation today.
Going down the memory lane ,probably during my primary school days if you asked me to define friends i would have innocently answered they were the objects with whom i could quarrel with day in & day out.I remember rushing to my mom from the school van to convince her how bad the little kids around me were & how they made fun of me.Then my mom would ask me-”Whom do you trust?Your mom or your friends?When i call you a darling do you think i don't mean it?”Well, that was enough when i was a single digit old.
Adolescence as usual(i guess) turned things around.Trust started to shift & friends became life.As my mom once said the small little boy who would give a candid summary about his school life during the evening tea slowly started speaking less.It was not as if i suddenly became dumb but the old quarrel objects ripened into objects of trust.Nor did i trust my parents any less.But there is simply something about friendship that surprasses every other relationship.
Over the years i have had quite a few friends.Most of them stood the test of time,or rather i failed their tests.Today on the evening of yet another friendship day when i sit back in my hostel room & read the friendship day sms forwards certain names dearest to my heart are missing.My name will be missing from their flooded inbox as well.
May be we never needed a special day to celebrate our frienship.
If that was a cliche , the most sincere & truthful of feelings are better left unsaid.

So very true, Alex.
Even I feel that one doesn't really need a day to celebrate the warmth in a relationship, like friendship.
It's something that we celebrate everyday, with our friends, through the wonderful time we spend with them.
I have been very lucky to have got a cool bunch of friends.

wat i really feel abt friendship day is that its jus nothing more than a formality. ppl jus sendin sms nd all 2 others. wtf man.. hav some feelings instead.. its wat v call as "bhed chaal" in hindi.
nice.. many people make friends only to use them, and once that use is over.. pfft... they forget u.

I think it's nice to have a day earmarked to celebrate friendship. It could serve as a reminder so as not to take one's friends for granted.
it's truly sad dat v need a day to celebrate friendship. never have i felt d need for bands and crzy rhyme messages to express my fondness to friends. its something that develops over years n conversations not thru petty things like d above!
